3 Beauty-Boosting Foods You Could be Eating Regularly

Ava Ghobadpour, MS, RD & Samantha Ford, MS

We've all heard the saying: you are what you eat. As nutritionists, we strongly subscribe to that notion. Building small, regular habits can really add up over time and go a long way.

Here are 3 foods to start incorporating regularly into your diet that will have your skin glowing (and help you age gracefully)!

  • Avocado - high in those good fats that help reduce inflammation in the body and help hydrate you from the inside out. Avocados are also rich in potassium and vitamin E, which supports new skin cell growth and helps heal blemishes and scars faster. It's so easy to incorporate avocado into your meals a few times a week: smash it on whole grain toast with tomato in the morning (an LA staple), add it to a salad in the afternoon, or make a batch of your favorite guac.
  • Citrus fruits – loaded with vitamin C, citrus fruits help protect the skin from free radicals and stimulate your body to produce more collagen: the holy grail of supple, elastic skin. (Bare Beauty does this too!) A few easy ways to get more citrus: incorporate lemon in your water, snack on some tangerines and oranges (or toss them in your salad). Citrus not in season? You can still get the vitamin C boost from bell peppers, tomatoes, or strawberries!
  • Flaxseeds – rich in omega 3 fatty acids, dietary fiber, B-vitamins and in alpha linolenic acid (ALA), this nutrient combo will reduce inflammation in your skin resulting in a smoother appearance. Bonus: it will help improve your digestion, help feed the good bacteria in your gut and support healthy hair. It is a MUST for us! Add it to your smoothies, salads, yogurt or bake it into your favorite treats.
